Ongoing Events
Hillel Hall of Fame
In conjunction with JAM at the University of
Florida, this year Hillel will be reintroducing
its Hall of Fame. Students who have excelled as
leaders in the Jewish community at UF/SFCC and
have promoted education, awareness, and guidance
on its behalf are eligible to apply for
posterity in the Hillel Hall of Fame, which will
include recognition at Norman H. Lipoff Hall,
the home for Hillel in Gainesville. For more
information, including requirements,
applications, and dates, please visit the JAM
website or table throughout the Month!
Carillon Music
Keep your ears open for the melodies of Jewish
tradition as Century Tower promotes Jewish
Awareness Month 2006. Throughout the Month,
students will be greeted across campus by
familiar tunes such as “Hava Nagila,” “Dayenu,”
and “Hatikvah,” the Israeli national anthem, so
be ready to turn off that iPod and join JAM in
the celebration!
Tabling
Stop by Turlington Plaza, the Reitz Union, and
elsewhere throughout campus when you see the JAM
table! We’ll have lots of information available
to students throughout the entire month about
events and activities in which Gators can learn
what it means to be Jewish. Aside from calendars
of events, there are sure to be lots of JAM
goodies and plenty of smiling faces to capture
your interest and attention. Students will have
the opporunity to participate in Israeli Mock
Elections through the March 28 election day.
Birthright Israel
Want to see the sun rise after scaling Masada?
Watch the sun set over the Mediterranean? Drop a
note in the Western Wall? Celebrate with others
your own age from your school or community? Ride
a camel? If you’re Jewish, age 18-26, and have
never been on a peer-group trip to Israel,
Hillel offers the best ways for you to have the
time of your life in Israel - FOR FREE! Taglit-birthright
israel is a unique partnership between the
people of Israel through their government, local
Jewish communities and Federations (through the
United Jewish Communities, Keren Hayesod, and
The Jewish Agency for Israel), and leading
Jewish philanthropists. Hillel at the University
of Florida offers the opportunity to participate
in this trip and JAM will have all of the
information available at our table throughout
the Month.
AIPAC Policy Conference 2006
Each year, the American-Israel Public Affairs
Committee, known as “America’s pro-Israel
Lobby,” hosts its Policy Conference in
Washington, D.C. This year, AIPAC Policy
Conference 2006 falls during Jewish Awareness
Month on March 5 through 7. As AIPAC campus
activists, UF students who travel to Washington
take part in sophisticated seminars and training
sessions designed to further develop leadership
skills and encourage involvement in the
political process. At the Conference banquet,
Washington’s premier political gala, delegates
dine and mingle with scores of lawmakers,
administration officials and diplomats. This
year’s banquet will feature addresses by
Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Evan Bayh
(D-IN). Our JAM table will feature continuing
coverage of the activities that take place at PC
’06 through the eyes of fellow Gators who are
witnessing it first hand. For more information,
visit
www.aipac.org/pc2006.
Marc Chagall Prize
JAM will be hosting an art competition for any
paintings that relate to a Jewish topic, with
the winner receiving the 1st Annual Marc Chagall
Prize. Amatuer artists will have their paintings
critiqued by faculty from the UF Fine Arts
Department. |
